Upgraded to 5 stars. See below.I have a 2006 xterra with an aftermarket stereo that has a detachable faceplate. I have never used the CD player since I bought the car. Now it finally has a use!The mounting was relatively easy, the lever mechanism is very tight inside the CD slot. I needed two hands to get it closed. I did not need to use the additional bracket piece that came with it.My biggest issue is every suction cup/em glue phone mount would fail in my car because the dash gets so hot in the summer. You can see the most recent failure on my dash above the vent. This phone mount is really sturdy and I don't have to worry about it melting.The cradle holds my Galaxy A32 5g tightly. My phone has a slim Otterbox on it making it 7 inches tall by 3 inches wide. My phone sits high in the cradle but it feels like it's stable.It has a little bit of wiggle but I think that's mostly from how my stereo is mounted in the dash. The next time I go play in the dirt with my car will be the true test. We have a lot of washboard roads in the Colorado rockies. I'll update this review when I've tested it on washed out dirt roads.Update 9/1/2022.This mount definitely keeps the phone securely held when driving on a washed out dirt road. I was in a really rocky and pitted road a couple of weeks ago and it didn't budge.Plus I was pleasantly surprised to learn that that bottom legs of the cradle can be adjusted to the size of your phone. I was wondering what that button was for. I probably missed that part in the description.This is the best mount I've used. The CD player mount is stable and secure. The phone doesn't jibe or get lost over speed bumps or railroad tracks. I love this thing. If you have a CD player you aren't using, get this mount.This is the second one I have purchased. These are high quality products that a work really well. They do have newer versions but for now this version is exactly what we need. Use it every day!! Works perfectly.For me the vent mounts are for summer use to prevent over heating of phones with heavy duty cases while using it for navigation. As the dash mounts don't usually go low enough for the phone to stay cool to have the air vents blowing cool air on it. During cooler seasons I would not use the vent mount as heat directed to it from the vent may cause the phone to stop charging while operating for navigation.It clams better then the lever type vent mount. But I wish the tighting ring would go tighter a bit more as I had on occasions had to loosen, push back more into the vent louvers and retighten after typical road bumps so it does not come off completely.I have tried so many mounts in my car and everyone one of them would fall eventually because the suction would stop working. This one so easy to install and sturdy, couldn’t be happier!Since I don't use my CD player this was the best choice for me to Install in my car. I've had no issues with it and it is very useful when using GPS to navigate a destination. I can take a quick look at the next instruction because sometimes the voice commands lag behind the written instructions. This has made my life simpler and only takes about 5-6 minutes to install. Worth every pennyThis is a cool concept and although there is minor vibration, my Samsung S22 with rugged case stayed pretty secured. It does block my backup camera view so if your CD slot is right above your console screen you may have the same issue. I didn't keep it in my truck long enough to see what sunlight and heat would do to the product, but that's something to keep in mind with it being near the dash.When I bought a new phone, I replaced my adhesive-mounted phone holder with the iOttie vent holder. It works well, the hold feels solid. If I had any complaints, it would be that the phone is susceptible to more vibration than I noticed with my old adhesive-mounted holder.This device fits into the CD slot and is very stable once inserted, there is no movement of the phone when the car is in motion. Locking it in the CD slot can be a bit tricky if it's not in the optimum position and at first I was wary about having to use too much force, but it was fine in the end. The phone locks in place automatically when it touches the back of the device, but after you've taken it out be careful not to touch it with your hand. I did once and my fingers got a nasty knock as the arms closed immediately!Really good product. Kudos to the designers. Well built, not cheap plastic. Been using for more than a month. Only criticism would be that it's slightly overpriced.One word. RubbishGot the CD mount version to put in my 2011 mini one and it works perfectly, doesn’t restrict my access to the media controls and other buttons and is at a great angleInitial impressions are that it seems sturdy, though the weight of the iPhone 13 Pro seems to push this device to its limit. I don’t think this would be suited for a Pro Max. The snap-close arms are aggressive. Magnetic cord holder is low key genius. CD slot mount fits securely. Good range of motion on the ball swivel mechanism.UPDATE: After 24 hours, the adhesive on the magnetic strip that attaches to the charging cord had already come loose and failed. Seems pretty weak. I've also realized that the feet that support the bottom of the phone interfere with the iOS app switching ability — there's no way to swipe along the bottom edge of the phone because the feet protrude so much.
